Wow, Dev's generous. I dropped 3 pounds (and 2 belt sizes!). Worth about that. No stand-out singles, just a nice play-through album.

Fitter Happier Music Buying Experience
Radiohead is giving their music away for free. Or you can pay for it. It's up to you. This should be interesting to watch. Upstart bands are already doing the same thing on MySpace and the like, but no major label artist has yet put out a new album and offered it up in a set-your-own-price model. Could Priceline for music be in the future? Permalink • 0 comments •Saturday, September 22, 2007
dare to be awesome
unlike last comic standing, weird al yankovic is funny. mike and i saw him on thursday night at the beacon. and yes, he played eat it. he played fat (in a giant fat suit). he played all about the pentiums, white and nerdy, smells like nirvana, the star wars songs, a bunch of 20 song polka medleys, and of course, amish paradise. new york magazine has a nice little piece on the hilarious show.Labels: music

rules of new jersey
I just got a Ticketmaster alert that Bon Jovi is playing 4 dates at the Prudential Center in Newark. This presents a tough decision. Blake's Rules of Life state that one should always make an effort to see Bon Jovi play live whenever he is playing in New Jersey, however the Rules also state that one must never go to Newark. This is a toughie. Lerman suggests I flip a NJ commemorative quarter.
In other news, Forbes has an interesting piece on the Top earning caddies in golf. Apparently Tiger's caddie made $1.27 million last year and was given a $140,000 new Ford GT as a bonus. I realize that there's a lot to it, but I can't help but think that all this person does is walk and carry sticks for a living.

Random Musings
Trying to get work done here at home and it occurs to me that I'm totally unproductive when there's music on in the background. TV doesn't bother me in the same way, especially live sports that are not in the last two minutes of a game, but for some reason I get really into music and find myself focusing on lyrics more than on completing whatever task on which I'm working. At least some channels still show music
I've noticed lately that live concerts are being broadcast with a lot of fast cuts now and I really don't like this. INHD's excellent London Live is a perfect example of this. The music sounds crisp, but the camera pans are dizzying and unpleasant. I've often watched entire songs performed without even a single clear visual on any of the band members. The first concert I can remember that was this dizzying was Britney Spears' Onyx Hotel tour, which I remember being a big, splashy, nauseating HD mess. And yes, I watched it. Go ahead and judge me, I don't care.

all aboard, all aboard, whooooa
Opened Wikipedia today and saw that the featured article is about The KLF, a leader in the British acid house music of the late 80's and early 90's. KLF is a fantastic story: a group of art student dropouts who created hit music for the sake of irony, made a bunch of money, and then burned more than $1,000,000 on a Scottish island just to make a coffee table book. As if that wasn't enough, they had the audacity to write a book called "The Manual" on how to make your own Brit chart topping hit, which mocked not only their own music, but also virtually every major electronic dance hit in the UK for the previous ten years. I love this story.Labels: music

Lily Allen will Control the Universe
so i'm listening to lily allen's "smile," which hasn't quite hit here yet but i'm a robbie williams fan so there goes my hipster cred. first of all, any girl who performs in a ball gown is alright by me, but particularly when said ball gown rocker throws a sugary vocal on top of a video that screams sado-pop. she's cute without being overly beautiful, but keenly aware of her cleverness. and that accent is just absurd. like it's so euro that even noel gallagher would think she was hamming it up.Labels: music
